About Us.
Timpanogos Tea Co. is a family owned and run company that gets pretty freakin' jazzed about sharing the magic tea with all who will listen (and/or share a cup).
We passionately source the tastiest, traditional, fair-trade teas from around the globe, as well as crafting small-batch, artisanal blends from organic sources much closer to us here at home on the beautiful slopes of Mount Timpanogos.
Tea is both simple and comforting, while being simultaneously nuanced and complex. We strive to meet every (potential) tea drinker just where they are and will do our best to make exploring the world of tea fun, surprising, and above all delicious.
While we hope to someday offer tea directly to the drinker--for now, we’re a wholesale-only tea company. We partner with coffee shops, cafés, and other good folks along the Wasatch Front who want to put a really great cup of tea in someone’s hands.
Our Story.
Goodness from the roots up.
From the Grey Mountains…
In the early aughts, founder Nick Zemp started Grey Mountain Herbs---a community herbal clinic and apothecary, providing natural and traditional systems of healing. He named the company after the misty, rolling hills surrounding his home in Ashville, North Carolina, as well as similar ancient landscapes that inspired the traditions of Chinese herbalism he practiced.
What began as that small herbal manufacturing company in Ashville eventually blossomed into a vibrant and thriving company that in addition to the apothecary featured a wide selection of beautiful teas from around the world.
…To Mount Timpanogos
Fast forward a couple of decades and Nick had moved from his beloved, lush, grey mountains to the Utah high desert to be closer to family. It was in that move that Grey Mountain Herbs found itself located at the base of the rugged and breathtaking Mount Timpanogos, located in the heart of the Wasatch Range of the Rocky Mountains.
Known by locals at Timp, this majestic mountain towers above our valley, a beacon of natural beauty and wonder. Home to crystal clear mountain lakes and pristine alpine meadows Timpanogos is an unparalleled and inspiring place—one that inspires who we are daily.
In 2023 Nick made the bittersweet decision to step back from tea crafting in order to work on other projects, turning operations over to his family. With this transition it seemed time for a new name, one that reflected a new place as place can't help but infuse its spirit into who we are, and what we create. Deep connections to the natural world around us (and the communities that support us) are core Zemp family values and come through in all we do.
And just like that, Grey Mountain Tea became Timpanogos Tea Company. Same family, same commitment to provide the same beloved teas and blends, shiny new name and outfit.
